LLB (UWE Bristol)

The LLB (Hons) Law programme at UWE Bristol provides you with a strong foundation in legal knowledge while developing the practical skills and professional confidence required for a successful career. The degree allows you to learn from experienced academics, benefit from hands-on opportunities through mock courtrooms, pro bono initiatives and the Business and Law Clinic. In addition, it provides the flexibility to specialise in areas that align with your career aspirations. Anyone intending to qualify as a Solicitor or Barrister or pursue opportunities in business, government or the wider public sector is likely to excel in a competitive professional environment after the graduation.

Programme structure:

The programme is delivered over three years, with a carefully structured curriculum that builds from fundamental legal principles to advanced areas of law.

Year 1 – Core Foundations

Students must complete four compulsory modules that establish the essential principles of English law:

  • Contract Law
  • Tort Law
  • Public Law
  • Criminal Law

These modules develop a solid understanding of legal reasoning, statutory interpretation, case analysis and legal research, providing the academic foundation for advanced legal study.

Year 2 – Developing Specialist Knowledge

Students may continue to broaden their legal expertise through modules including:

  • Sexual Offences and Offending
  • Public International Law
  • Commercial Law
  • Land Law

These modules explore more specialised legal disciplines while strengthening analytical, problem-solving and critical evaluation skills through increasingly complex legal scenarios.

Year 3 – Advanced Legal Practice

The final year focuses on advanced legal concepts and professional preparation through modules such as:

  • Law of Evidence
  • Company Law
  • Equity Law
  • EU Law
  • Student Lawyer Module

The Student Lawyer Module provides an opportunity to apply legal knowledge in practical settings while further developing professional competencies, employability skills, and ethical awareness.

Assessment Strategy:

The UWE Bristol LLB programme adopts a mixed assessment strategy that integrates three key components: practical coursework, open-book online examinations and reflective portfolio to assess students’ legal knowledge alongside the professional skills required for legal practice. Unlike traditional LLB programmes, the UWE Bristol LLB programme also employs a diverse assessment approach which includes multiple choice questions (MCQs), group projects and presentations among others.

The assessment strategy is designed to provide several opportunities for feedback and continuous development throughout the academic year, strengthening students’ legal research, writing and analytical skills as well.
